Our mission is to combine medical, technological, and scientific skill sets to discover new approaches to combat infectious disease outbreaks. We do this by listening to both patients and their health care providers in the hope that conversation uncovers unanticipated problems and reveals solutions inspired by the end-user.

Eric Nelson, M.D. Ph.D., is part of a team of scientists that build technologies to improve the health of poor communities in developing countries using a process called human centered design to define challenges and explore sustainable solutions.

Clinical Infectious Diseases – COTS Program

The Cholera Outbreak Training and Shigellosis (COTS) Program, version 1.0, is a compact disc (CD)-based educational program for individuals, nongovernmental organizations, and ministries of health. Although the focus is on cholera and shigellosis, this interactive educational program provides useful basic information on the general management of acute diarrhea.
